Welcome to Madison Camelview
Elementary School!
Thank you for your interest in our elementary school located
in central Phoenix. Camelview will be home to over 700 preK
– 3rd grade students with 44 certified teachers for
the 2007-2008 school year. Our mission is to envision excellence,
nuture self-confidence and inspire pride in our school and
community.
At Camelview, we focus on increasing student achievement in
literacy and math for all students by setting site-based goals
that support state and national standards. Daily in literacy,
teachers read to students, model writing and select material
to teach students strategies in reading with ongoing assessment
as their guide. In mathematics, teachers work toward developing
student’s problem-solving ability as well as computational
fluency by using CGI word problems, manipulatives, mental
math, flash cards, and memorization tools.
Parent participation and a strong home/school communication
play an important role in our success at Camelview. The Camelview
Chronicle is sent home bi-monthly and translated in Spanish
to share school goals, upcoming events, PTO functions, and
a host of educational items and opportunities. Teachers also
send home class newsletters to inform parents about what their
children are learning. All staff members have voice mail and
an e-mail address. Yearly, Camelview hosts a Family Math Night,
a Family Literacy Night and a Curriculum / Open House Night
to inform our parents about our curriculum and to enable them
to better understand what their child is learning.
We are working on making Camelview a safe place to learn and
work. We encourage parents to participate in meetings with
teachers, visit classrooms, and have lunch with their child
or conference with the administration. We ask that all visitors
on the school campus report to the school office and sign
in to obtain a visitor’s badge for every visit. This
is for the safety of all students as well as the visitor.
Our terrific Camelview Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) makes
tremendous contributions to our school. The parents and teachers
in this organization organize fundraisers that provide many
activities for students and families. They assist by working
in classrooms, providing assemblies, teacher mini-grants,
field trips and school/community activities. We are extremely
fortunate to have such a dedicated group of parents in helping
make Camelview a positive learning environment.
If you have any questions about our school or would like to
visit or volunteer at Camelview, please call our school office
at 602-664-7200.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Barbara Pierce
