Welcome to Special
Education - Resource
There is a new improved
look to the resource room at Camelview, its called "inclusion". The Special
Education teacher now goes into the classroom to provide services to the children
allowing the child the opportunity to stay in their regular homeroom class.
When it is necessary the children may be pulled out to the resource room to
reinforce any skills which may be difficult to achieve in the regular classroom
setting.
In the area of reading,
we emphasize letter identification, letter sounds, sight words and comprehension
skills. The children work on reading their own published books as well as other
printed materials.
In the area of writing,
we work on capitalization, punctuation, and writing on lines. We learn to write
consonants and vowels the children hear, spelling words and formulating sentences.
During this process the teachers are continually publishing the children's written
works which help to reinforce learned skills.
In the area of mathematics,
we identify numbers, rote count, count by 2's and 5's and write numbers. We
read and work on story problems, writing number equations, and learn to apply
this information to every day situations. Graphing, charting, and measuring are
activities that are always exciting to do.
Teaching and learning
are always happening in class. Using different teaching techniques and strategies
the children are always given the opportunity to achieve their highest potential.
Using techniques such as game play, manipulatives, songs, drama and computers
the children can maximize their learning styles. It is my goal as a teacher
of Special students that I meet the needs of every child I work with.
