Physical
Education is an integral part of the total
education process of the Madison
School District. The focus of
the program is to prepare and to motivate all students
to engage in activities which promote health and physical
well-being. Physical Education is that phase of
the general educational program that contributes to the
total growth and development of each child primarily through
movement experiences.
Our
physical education program will help children become competent
in a variety of motor skills and movements. Children
will experience a broad variety of movement activities
and develop an understanding of movement principles which
include body awareness, space awareness, and qualities
of movement.
At
Camelview Elementary
all of the K-3 students attend physical education
class twice each six day rotation for thirty minutes.
Our physical education program centers increased attention
on human wellness and healthful living. Teaching
for wellness involves teaching concepts that help students
develop an active lifestyle. The physical education
program will provide children an opportunity to participate
in activities designed to develop and maintain personal
health through physical activity and fitness. Students
will develop an understanding of how to maintain
wellness throughout life.
The
district curriculum
is designed to follow the Arizona
State Standards for Physical Education. The curriculum
has specific learner outcomes and assessments to measure
student success in performance skills and personal fitness.
Some of the skills taught and then assessed include Fundamental
Skills: Locomotor, Nonlocomotor, Body Management;
Specialized Skills: Manipulative, Rhythmic Movement,
Gymnastic, Game, and Sport. Personal
health and wellness skills are a part of each physical
education lesson with a purpose of establishing a desire
in children to maintain fitness and wellness throughout
their adult years.
At
Camelview, we hope that by participating in our physical
education program, children will enjoy being active, learn
important fitness concepts, develop good social skills,
and maintain a positive self-concept.
