Field Day Information:
  Lets have a fun day!

The purpose of this page is to share with other physical education teachers samples of field day organization, classroom scheduling and games.

  • Field days at Camelview involve all of the students in every class at one of the many game stations.  The day begins 45 minutes after school begins, goes until the regularly scheduled lunch times,  continues after lunch recess until 30 minutes before dismissal at which time all students enjoy a popsicle before being dismissed to go home.
  • Students are encouraged to wear a hat, play clothes, and  tennis shoes.  They should put on sunscreen and bring a water bottle.  Parents are invited to attend as well.
  • Our field days are done on two days, half of the school on each day, usually kindergarten on day one and 1st and 2nd on day two.  Each year the scheduling is determined by the number of sections in each grade level.  However, these are minor changes and can be made easily by making changes to the previous year's schedule.
  • The teacher stays with her class the entire day.  She brings the class to the game station and if needed, helps run the game.  All of the games are usually done in relay fashion.  There are two classes scheduled to be at each game and they each have a team play the game at one time, repeating the game four times so that
    all students get a turn.
  • All classes are at a station.  They stay at the station for twenty minutes and play the game until the whistles blows to rotate to the next station.
  • The stations can be ran using parent volunteers, older students (5 & 6 graders). specials teachers , student teachers, and teacher's aides, or the class teachers themselves.  The directions for each game is at each station as well as in a packet for the helper.
  • The games are usually changed each year.  Some like tug-o-war, bucket brigade, obstacle course, and any real favorites are always included.  Fun new games are added and lots of water games are fun.

Each classroom teacher is given a packet that includes:
  • Notice Home
  • Relay Rules
  • Field Day Notes
  • Schedule of Events
  • Squad teams (4)
  • Map of stations
