Camelview students must learn to think,
discover and create and communicate if they are to be prepared
for a future characterized by ongoing technological change.
These skills are a part of the Elementary Library Media Curriculum.
A solid foundation of information literacy skills
prepares students for a lifetime of learning. |
Information Literacy Standards
Standard 1: Accesses information efficiently and effectively
- Ask librarian for assistance.
- Identify and use parts of a book.
- Understand library organization.
- Formulate questions based on information
needs, book selections andpersonal interests.
- Use the online catalog to access on-site
resources.
- Access information found in a variety
of sources, including print and
electronic resources.
Standard 2: Evaluates information
critically and competently
- Identify fiction and non-fiction.
- Use visual and textual cues to solve information
problems.
- Identify fact, opinion and point of view.
- Assess accuracy, relevancy, and comprehensiveness
of information.
Standard 3: Uses information accurately
and creatively
- Connect ideas and make predictions based
on prior knowledge.
- Use organizational strategies to restate
information.
- Identify intended audience and purpose.
- Determine appropriate problem solving
strategies to integrate information and ideas from multiple
resources.

Standard 4: Pursues information related to personal
interests.
- Self-select fiction and non-fiction books
to read for enjoyment, personalinterest and enrichment.
- Organize relevant information.
- Share information with others
Standard 5: Appreciates and enjoys literature and
other creative expressions of information
- View and listen to a wide variety of literature.
- Participate in activities that encourage
the appreciation of literature.
- Evaluate and respond to literature using
a personal perspective.
- Develop awareness and examine the qualities
of picture books, awardwinning books and various genres.
- Recognize basic literary elements.
Standard 6: Strives for excellence
in information seeking and knowledge generation
- Set a purpose for reading.
- Select appropriate materials.
- Develop awareness of basic information

Responsibility Standards
Standard 7: Recognizes the importance of information
to a democratic society
- View and listen to literature and information
from a variety of cultures and disciplines.
- Demonstrate proper care and handling of
library resources.
- Show responsibility to others by returning
materials on time, keeping materials in order and using
correct checkout procedures.
- Respect the concept of shared access to
limited resources.
- Develop awareness of public library.
Standard 8: Practices ethical behavior
in regard to information and information technology
- Demonstrate responsible use of technology
according to district acceptable use policy.
- Develop awareness of intellectual freedom
and freedom of expression while accepting personal responsibility
to maintain community standards.
- Avoid plagiarism and model appropriate
use of basic copyright laws.
- Identify and cite sources.
Standard 9: Participates effectively
in groups to pursue and generate information
- Exchange knowledge and information with
others.
- Attend and respond appropriately to library
activities.
- Participate and respond in group discussions
by communicating specific facts, opinions, and points of
view.
