Celebrating Character
at Camelview
The Phoenix Arts Commission and the Camelview PTO
sponsored artist-in-residence, Kasha Banko, a professional mosiac
tile artist. Ms. Banko instructed Camelview students and staff on
the procedures and processes necessary to construct a mosaic mural.
This project not only enhances Camelview's art curriculum, but also
will be a school-wide, yearlong celebration of character education.
It directly teaches to the Arizona State Arts Standards allowing
students to learn to handle art materials and tools responsibly,
how to incorporate symbols into artwork and how to convey meaning
of and feelings about their subject matter using a unique medium.
Using clay as a medium, students created a tile to represent their
personal interpretation of their grade level character trait in
alignment with our school character education program. Kindergarten
- "Caring"; 1st grade - "Responsibility"; 2nd
grade - "Trustworthiness"; and 3rd grade - "Citizenship".
Also, student tiles reflecting the traditional pattern of different
cultures were made by a smaller core group of students.
The mosaic mural was unveiled at a special celebration on February
10th. Photos
Family Math Night
celebrate our students' skills in mathematics. TERC Mathematics
Investigations, along with the support of Harcourt materials, challenge
Camelview students to apply mathematics in everyday life in the

and Problem-solving, as well as technology integration. Photos
R.E.A.D. Reading Education Assistance
Dogs - Camelview partners with two wonderful golden
retrievers, Jake and Olsen, and their owners (Kim and Linda) to
provide a unique reading opportunity for our students. Jake and
Olsen are registered therapy animals who serve as reading companions
for children. Jake and Olsen are great listeners! Their presence
creates an inviting and motivating environment, where reading learners
can proudly prove their reading skills to a non-judgement, four-legged
friend!
